Double Unders
Double unders are a type of multiple under where the rope passes under or by the jumper’s feet two times in one jump. Double unders are one of the first big milestones for most new jumpers to ‘unlock’ in their jump rope journey, especially double unders crosses (commonly written as DUX). Double under crosses can in fact be perform five different ways, some harder than others.
Coach Chris’s Top Tips
✅ Keep your chest up and eyes fixed on the horizon
✅ Keep your hands tight to your body so the rope’s arc is narrow
✅ Drive down with your hands as your turn the rope twice
‼️ Avoid hinging at your hips like a ‘dolphin kick’
‼️ Avoid slamming your feet into the ground in between jumps

Is it still a double under if the first ‘under’ is a Swing?
Yes. In any multiple under, we count the number of times the rope passes by or under the jumper’s feet. So, Swing Open is a double, Open Swing Cross is a triple, and Swing Cross Swing EB is a quad. It’s important to note that the jumper must have jumped during the bottom portion of the Swing for this to count - if the majority of the swing happens whilst your feet are firmly on the floor then this won’t count.
