Volunteering at Zeal Youth Hub

Introducing jump rope to a new generation and teaching young adults about the importance of exercise is one of my main goals as Coach Chris. In October 2019, I started volunteering weekly at a local youth club, Zeal Youth Hub, a safe place for young adults to hang out, socialise and have fun.

Giving up two hours of my time every week has evolved into the two best hours of my week. The young adults love learning new jump rope skills, playing games and enjoying a different way to exercise.

My biggest surprise came this week after the Christmas break when one of the young adults brought in his own very colourful beaded rope which he had gotten from Santa for Christmas - not only that but his sister told me how he’d been practising every day at home since Christmas Day.

Want to come along to Zeal Youth Hub? Their doors are open 6pm-8pm every Friday during term time. Come along and dare to jump rope.

Watch the video above to see one the other volunteers learn a real tough jump rope skill for the first time. His reaction is priceless. This is why I do this.
